A Half-Century of Service to Madison
The Madison Housing Authority (MHA) is an independent public agency dedicated to providing quality, affordable housing and housing assistance to income-qualified households in the Borough of Madison.
MHA administers federal housing programs and serves as the Administrative Agent for the Borough of Madison's Affordable Housing Program, providing affordable housing, rental assistance, and supportive services to income-qualified households.
Established in 1970, MHA was created through the efforts of Madison residents who recognized the need for safe, decent, and affordable housing within the community. Over the past five decades, the Authority has expanded its services while remaining committed to providing housing opportunities, promoting self-sufficiency, and strengthening the Madison community.
To provide quality, inclusive, affordable homes to low- and moderate-income individuals and families — creating opportunities to build stable, healthy lives and to become a vital part of the Madison community.
Board of Commissioners
The Madison Housing Authority is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners appointed in accordance with New Jersey law. The Board sets policy and provides strategic oversight to support the Authority's mission. A non-voting Borough Council Liaison also serves to strengthen communication and coordination between the Housing Authority and the Borough.
Staff
The Authority's day-to-day operations are administered by a professional staff responsible for managing housing programs, serving residents and applicants, maintaining MHA properties, and implementing the policies established by the Board of Commissioners.
